Not going to work right without the correct drivers. That's the biggest issue is drivers. Sure you can put the ICS on 1GHz and 512MB but without the drivers you'll be dead in the water. COBY doesn't care about upgrades they just come out with tablets that can run the newer OS. But everyone does the same. COBY Policy is no upgrades in the OS whatever the tablet OS comes with it that's it.. So for those of us that were stuck with OS 2.1 we not have OS 2.3.3 thanks to me. But to go higher is where the issue has been.

ICS vs GB

The issues is how apps and games are supported.
ICS is not perfect but a lot better than HoneyComb was.
Bugs are in OS 1.6, OS 2.0, OS 2.1, OS 2.2, OS 2.3, OS 3.2, OS 4.0.x That's why OS 5 is coming out to fix the bugs in OS 4 but really?

Maybe Coby will use some of the same or similar hardware in future ICS tablets, so that it may be easier to work out the driver issues.

No they're not doing that they use different vendors. The 7042 looks like the 7015, 7016, 7022, but the issue is what's inside there. PCB going to be different and we do know now that the Telechip PCB is gone in favor for the All Winner A10 1.5GHz (slated at 1.2GHz) running at 1008MHz, but can be OC to 1.2GHz. Those boards are not like the old ones. They have 300MHz GPU based on MAI 400, where the old one wasn't that way. 9042 and 9742 are not the same. 9042 an 1042 are almost same type. Should be coming from the same vendor where as the 9742 is not.

Drivers for Touch screen, for WiFi, for things in that nature will be effected. The only way to do this is if the OEM not COBY has it already. But most of them left off at OS 2.3.3. Then decided to come out with a newer hardware and OS. Just way to many models used by COBY and they're still at it.

Ok, i stripped that upgrade APK and found following

Right now only german models

If a S/N is used already it will not allow you to download it again

So i guess a no go for U.S tablets unless someone gets us the rom and we push it manually, looks like a fastboot method

Thanks for asking, installed the market, but it alway crashes when i start the download. I start again and it shows it is waiting for data, bit nothing is coming.
Same with other markets, just tried blackmart alpha for testing, sais there it is a network problem. But the normal browsing works. Also GetJar works.
Did they cut the transfer?
I need the tablet for a special teachers app, but i can´t install it. So i want to go back to GB, after a long time and a lot of testing i got it working. but this ICS makes me crazy.
What do you think, what are my options?

Maybe the German version of the 1126 has a different Wifi chipset and therefore you have these problems.

My coby is provided by Memup (french ).Their technical support confirmed me by email that they are waiting an update to ICS. No news from them for the moment but if coby germany have done this update i think i will be contact in few days by Memup....

My serial number is different than the number show in video (sorry my german is not very good so i don't understand completely the guy) because it start with SP116C- and digits).

SP116C = Slidepad 116C which refer to the name of the coby MID1125 for Memup

If an update is done, i think we will see another package in few weeks (I hope)

COBY Euro is 3G, Bluetooth and WiFi

Drivers will be an issue or not since they have the 7022, 8125, 1125 and 1126. The only issue.

Serial number is mostly going to be for USA, if you can get it to work strung3 would be interesting for you guys to have a non-rooted tablet. You might have to use the 7042 method to get the root going.

It is really a mess. Very smoth, but not stabil, crashes a lot, downloads in getjar doesn´t work, I am able to install android market, but it crashes too an downloads don´t start.
It has a very good working browser, that´s the best thing on it.

Does anybody have an idea how to get back to GB 2.3? What can I do?

Well as you can see 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 or 4.0.5 are what is out now. They still have issues with Ice Cream just like they did with Honeycomb. Gingerbread will be the last good one to use. Frankly everything works with Gingerbread.

Gingerbread image for 1126 you'll have to hunt for that one. Since your in Germany then contact COBY Germany maybe someone can help you out.. To restore to the prior one.

Like I said those who make this more, just beware that your not rooted and your using the plain stock ROM..

But I will ask them again how to go bacl to GB. Maybe they can help. They really gave an anwer after only a few hours! ... I will give an update

Your don't need to know German. You just need to watch or fast forward in the tutorial till it gets to the serial than guess the last 1 or 2 numbers. But beware this is the stock image no root.. there isn't a lot of support at this time because it is a new update. I will post up more information about my findings soon.

I finally got the update on one of my 7022's had them pull serial numbers, told them mine got swiped clean from cleaning the tablet.

As burntkid said, there is no support, no root yet, no google market or any other gapps software on, no CWM for it.

If you had CWM it will be gone, fastboot and fwdn works as before.

So far i can say, its great, ICS is superior to GB but without any mod's worthless. Battery time is better, smoother gfx and faster overall, the screen dpi is wrongly set to <160 so eveything looks kind of fuzzy.

Wifi is the same as before, after suspend only 0.46mbit up and down bottlenecked

Also, in order to download teh upgrade u need teh full serial and only serials released by cobygermany will work, no others, i tested everything. Once ICS is on it will ask to reenter the S/N to register.

Once we get a ICS root it will be great, till then, dont bother, my suggestion. Maybe there will be never a root because Coby USA will not release any ICS update ever, so the modders will not bother, they will focus on the new line of tablets and there u cant use there recovery because teh Hardware differs.

I tried this little software tool, seems like they use it to push stuff in recovery mode, ( update.zip as in GB 2.3 ) , sadly pushing SU or gapps does not work, gapps installs but framework is broke, not sure why that is...

I tried the official gapps, there gapps and some other modded ones, same result, i will keep testing, this software should work on all ICS models regardless of there brand.

At least we have an option now to push any .zip file through the original ICS recovery.

No problem. Yes thats one place i have not looked , did now.

I was be able to push CW via fastboot, i had the image already but was not sure if it would brick the ICS rom. Only problem is that the recovery image is not permanent, once pushed you have to use it on your next reboot, after that its gone and replaced with the stock ICS recovery partition. Kind of weird but it looks like the Coby ICS Image contains a security software that triggers and restores modified partitions.

Although they have the extra security i sucessfully rooted the tablet, its not a permanent root but good enough to play with the build.prop

The tablet with this Coby Stock ICS is kind of sluggish and needs to get modded

Yeah on the 7042 has a block on the core kernel that's set to =1 which needs to be set to =0 to enable full Root. I have to try good old fashion magic that that one. Otherwise I won't be able to over clock it. ICS 4.0.4 this is my version of 4.0.3 although 4.0.4 and 4.0.5 out there..

If you got ICS on your 7022 and want Bulldog Platinum for it let me know.. I'll need a few things. Right now I get 670MB free on the 7042 using FMR it's 730MB free. Prior to Bulldog Titanium ECON 20 it was 430-500MB. Best out of the 512MB should be this..

Yeah i think development of ICS is the next step, right now the biggest problem i have is the DPI, it was set by default to 120, i tried 160 but i get problems with the original launcher and some apps, i set it to 170 now but it still does not seem right.

You need a full image or CW backup will suffice ? let me know what you need and i will extract, mayeb it can be used to tailor a ICS version for our 7015 users, that would be a blast !

After a couple of days, how is stable ICS on your tablet ?
In the futur, can we imagine an ICS bulldog version optimized by tipstir for our tablet (MID1125 etc...) ?

5. Under mounts Format Boot and system.

6. Return to main menu, Go to install zip from sdcard.

7. Select choose zip from sdcard.

8. Select mid7022_ICS_Update.zip

9. Say yes.

10. Now you have ICS.

I just transferred a bunch of files from my PC to the 7042's SD card and I can't find them. The movies, videos and music are recognized so I know the files are there and the SD card is functioning properly. Where do I go to view files on the 32 gb SC card?

Your external SDcard under ICS is at a different location, it will not work with EZFile Explorer, you will need RootExplorer

Card is 1 layer above everything else called MNT/Storage

Yes because there is a 3x settings you need to apply.. 120dpi buy default the other setting is 130 to large. I've change that from 75 to a scale of 100 to see where it looks the best. If you look at the post under the News you'll see how it looks.

I guess they figure very extra large fonts look better but it doesn't. Set your fonts to normal under settings.

I have a 1125 and am currently running the ICS update supplied by coby.

It just does a force close. Can't get Root Explorer to work -- even after rebooting.

I just tried this on my 7022 and it's stuck on the boot screen. I get Coby, then Android and it won't go further. Now what?

Nastypup, how long did you wait on the android screen before you stopped it? It can take a long time on the first boot. Also make sure you wipe everything before you flash it. The only thing that I can think of is maybe it was corrupted somewhere while downloading it.

I did a full restore to 2.3.3 on my tablet and then flashed using the zip to ensure it worked. I will help in anyway I can. ICS is a little buggy as it does occasionally freeze or reboot but overall it is a great OS. Even with its bugs I like it much more than GB. The HDMI does not work.

2 hours. I have CM9 ICS on my phone and I love it, too. I just got a new 7042 ICS tablet yesterday and it's really nice.

ok, Here is a longer way of doing the same way.....

Place these on tablets sd card.

then reboot and enter fastboot mode

then download this http://www.mediafire.com/?4dcgkevdiy63zp7 and extract it. place the recovery.img in your android sdk platform tools folder. flash using command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" from command prompt in your sdk directory. Hopefully you have used adb before. This puts your recovery back on the tablet.

then reboot and immediately enter recovery mode. Don't let the system boot or you will lose recovery.

in recovery wipe cache and then advanced/delvik cache

then flash the jcase zip and the gapps zip

this will give you ICS with root, recovery, and play store.

Hopefully you do not have to go through all of this and a simple reflash from the zip I made will fix it. Also try just reseting the tablet from the boot loop. It might just need to be reset. Let me know how things go.

Place these on tablets sd card.

then reboot and enter fastboot mode

then download this http://www.mediafire.com/?4dcgkevdiy63zp7 and extract it. place the recovery.img in your android sdk platform tools folder. flash using command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" from command prompt in your sdk directory. Hopefully you have used adb before. This puts your recovery back on the tablet.

then reboot and immediately enter recovery mode. Don't let the system boot or you will lose recovery.

in recovery wipe cache and then advanced/delvik cache

then flash the jcase zip and the gapps zip

this will give you ICS with root, recovery, and play store.

Hopefully you do not have to go through all of this and a simple reflash from the zip I made will fix it. Also try just reseting the tablet from the boot loop. It might just need to be reset. Let me know how things go.

I clicked on the first link 5 times and each time it took me to a different page ;-). I have gapps because I use it for my phone. I decided to download the other file again and reflash instead of going through this complicated process. I've done stuff like that before but, at my age, I like fast and simple. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know what happens. I'm in the process of getting the 7042 loaded with my granddaughter's apps. She's been without her tablet for more than 3 weeks.

I tried the first method again with the same results so I'm back on Bulldog Gold Elite. It would have been nice to have ICS on the 7022 but it's not going to happen today. Maybe in the near future someone will come up with an easy, foolproof method of putting ICS on the 7022.

Ok, I made another flashable ICS update for the 7022. The differenceis that this does not have gapps included. It does have root and will leave your recovery intact. Can you try this one? I am wondering if the gapps included is too many changes all at once or I did some thing wrong. After flashing this let it do a full boot then you can go back into recovery and flash gapps.
