Well I've been testing 7042 with the Archos Player and full Codecs. Since we have host adware blocking no ads appear in that app. Like full version. Anyway you can stream any media even like WTV files created from Windows 7 or 8 Media Center if you turn your PC into DVR to Record HDTV 5.1 Dolby Plus Sound. But will the Kyros be able to handle that. It depends on what you have going on.
I record a lot off METV and yes you can get that off HDTV ANT now and COZI, Bounce, GETV (10/13) many cable channels are coming soon. So now I have 71 channels for free. But anyway, the media player can playback WTV (Windows Television Video or Windows Recorded Television Video).
Most players can't even play that with your converting it over.
Archos Player supports SMB (Windows Shares) and UnPnP Network Media Players. I use SONY SMP-N100 and SMP-N200 along with tablets, smart phones, netbooks, laptops and desktops here. But Archos Player on Android works much better than Toshiba Thrive Media Server Player app.
Archos Player has rotating tiles. It's okay the focus is more on how it handles media. I also stream from my NAS the ZYXEL NSA 325 works great.
I've tested the 7042 OC 1.08GHz with 1GB of RAM with PowerCode 1000 DCX vs Thrive table with Dual core Tegra2 with 802.11n, 1.2GHz and 1GB of RAM. 7042 running PowerCode 1000 had less hiccups than the Thrive does.
More testing will follow...
